We are excited to announce that we will be offering a brief introduction to scientific communication for roboticists at this year’s International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS). The event will take place in person and via livestream on Tuesday, October 15, starting at 1:00 PM GST (9:00 AM UTC), in collaboration with IEEE Spectrum. If you’re interested in learning how to share your research with the public in various formats, join us. Following a one-hour introductory lecture, there will be an optional, open, drop-in session where you can practice what you’ve learned, ask science communication questions, or discuss your ideas and stories.
Schedule
- 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM (GST): Discussion: Scientific Communication for Roboticists – Introductory Training
- 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM (GST): Open drop-in session for individual assistance
Location
Meeting Room 15, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
You can also watch online via a live stream. Register here.
About the Session
Scientific communication is crucial. It helps demystify robotics and AI for a wide range of people, including policymakers, business leaders, and the general public. As a researcher, mastering this skill can not only enhance your communication abilities but also expand your network and increase the visibility and impact of your work.
In this brief tutorial, prominent science communicators in robotics and AI will teach you how to clearly and concisely explain your research to non-specialists. You’ll learn how to avoid hype, find appropriate images and videos to illustrate your work, and get started with social media. We will conclude with an overview of mainstream media on how to share your story with a broader audience.
